White Wagtail by Neil Fifer
Kumquat tea, persimmons, pheasants and partridge, even the airport birds are Blue Magpies. Taiwan is a wonderful introduction to Asia's extraordinary birdlife. It is very conservation-minded; has the best museum of Chinese antiquities - bar none; organised, polite, respectful happy citizens; fresh fabulous food; autumn-leafed trees on high mountain peaks, but flat walking trails with Simon our local guide famed as 'the' authority on birds for the past 25 years.

Female Swinhoe's Pheasant
The Fairy Pitta is our target species but there will be many more birds like Tiger Bittern, Mikado Pheasant, Bamboo Hill Partridge, White-whiskered Laughingthrush and Taiwan Mountain Partridge. Sibias, serpent eagles, fulvettas, barbets, yuhina and laughingthrushes: a world of new species. Not to mention Barking Deer, squirrels, macaque and the Formosa Bear.

National Park Headquarters
We are interested in and searching out all things natural, with a bit of shopping and a day at the National Palace Museum.
