An Introduction and Welcome toFollow That Bird – Sydney’s Birding Company
My name is Janene Luff and I am proud to be the Organiser, Leader and Driver (usually) of a small team of most important Ornithologists.
This is a brief description of who our company is and what we can do for you.
Who is Follow That Bird? Follow That Bird has been operating high-quality birding tours since 1994 as Australian Special Interest Tours (ASIT) till 2002 when we changed the name to be more specific to our passion – birds. We have always believed in two simple premises: we want all of our clients to share in the excitement and fun of a top-notch birding adventure, and we want to provide the best service possible to both our tour participants and our independent travel clients. We are delighted by what seems to be success in both categories: we have a loyal following, many of whom have been on 5, 10, or in some cases, dozens of tours with us, and these clients, in turn, are our greatest advertising – most of our new clients come to us by word of mouth via a friend who suggested they “must” try a Follow That Bird tour.
We offer a couple of Day Trips per month and an Away Tour at least once a month, featuring small groups and including all meals. Additionally we can arrange birding trips for birding clubs and private groups. We can also arrange for an experienced Follow That Bird leader to accompany your group of 8 or more.
How big are our groups and what’s included in our tour fees? We believe that small groups make for high-quality birding tours. Our away tours are limited to 12 (Sydney Day Trips 19). Fees are based on double occupancy (single supplements are available for most tours). Unless otherwise indicated on a tour’s itinerary, the tour fee includes: all lodging and meals as listed in the itinerary, all transportation during the tour, entrance fees for parks and other areas, baggage handling, tips, and the guide services of the tour guide. Unless indicated otherwise, our tour fees do not include: transportation to and from tour departure points, alcoholic beverages, passport and visa fees, airport taxes, phone calls, laundry, or other items of a personal nature. Please note that tour fees are based on prices in effect on the date stated in the itinerary and are subject to adjustment owing to price increases.
Who goes with us? We have travelled with hundreds of birders of all ages and skills. You don’t have to be an expert…we can help you develop your skills. You just have to enjoy travelling and want to observe Australia’s many beautiful and fascinating birds, not to mention all the other wildlife, fabulous landscapes, and distinct culture we see along the way.
Why do our clients travel with us? From novice to seasoned birdo, our clients continue to travel with us because we design our itineraries carefully, provide comprehensive pre-and post-tour information, handle logistics smoothly, and because our guides are not only first-rate field ornithologists skilled at finding birds and showing them to all members of a group, but also warm, fun-loving people who genuinely enjoy making the tour a pleasant experience for each participant.
Beyond creating itineraries that balance fabulous birding with reasonable logistics, it’s our job to make your trip as free of concern as possible. Our tours include all meals (with Morning Teas and picnic lunches a beloved trade mark of good food on most tours). We also understand that being unreasonably crowded is not part of a memorable birding trip, so our tours typically are limited to 12 participants on many itineraries; many are limited to still smaller numbers.
The cost is $AU750.00 per two people for the day and is well worth the expense considering the personalised service given to achieving your birding aims. Whether they be sighting specific birds from your Bird Wish List, a large species count for the day or even mixing your love of birding with a little sight seeing in our beautiful Sydney habitats. It’s your prearranged choice.
Your driver/Ornithologist, transport, all entry fees and parking fees are included.
Your Ornithologist will ring you the night before to confirm pick up time, discuss any final arrangements, weather conditions etc
They would pick you up from your hotel in the city at around 7.30am and return you late afternoon/evening. A full day is considered to be 8-10 hours, from pick up to drop off point.
Drive you to the locations you have elected in the initial arrangements, and then refined the previous evening.
Make sure you are able to buy your refreshments, at morning tea, lunch and afternoon break if required.
And most importantly make all endeavours to fulfil your Bird Wish List.
New There is now a Half Day Trip available for 5 hours from pick up to drop off point at $AU475.00.
