Alpine Birds and Flowers

Freshen up in the crisp, clean mountain air with crystal rivers and alpine birds.

Walking in the fragile alpine is very, very beautiful and unique. Flame Robins are conspicuous by the male with his striking orange-red breast and are found in the subalpine woodlands. Gang-gang Cockatoos are less obtrusive and usually heard by the cracking sounds of seeds as they feed. Red-necked wallabies are generally along the alpine ways and snow grass covered hills lead to sphagnum moss bogs.

This year we will have a local flower expert with us for the walk down the Thredbo River on Day 2 to identify the magnificent array of wildflowers. And after lunch we will catch the Crackenback chairlift to the top of the mountain and lie in the flowers whilst Gillie speaks about the alpine flower displays, history and geogrphy of the area. Quite a lazy treat!

Your accommodation at eclectic Bimblegumbie is very relaxing with plenty of personal service. The award winning bush gardens make a pleasant early morning wander and a walk up the hill finds White-eared Honeyeaters, Pardalotes and Grey Shrike-thrushes aplenty.

This is the mating and nymph season for snow-country grasshoppers which are brightly coloured and spotted but the metallic beetles are hard to beat for flashy colour. And I am sure birds such as the prolific Little Ravens will be making short work of them.

This trip is a firm favourite with the driver, Janene, and participants, many of whom have travelled this trip twice, or more as it is just beautiful, comfortable and easy journey. And with the odd Pink Robin thrown in who could argue.
