Gloucester & Barrington Tops
Such a lovely experience is this trip that it is often requested and November is the perfect time for the cooler climes of these wild tops.
With 3 nights accommodated in Gloucester there is no moving in and out of motels and all food is included from the moment you step aboard the bus, except your nightly refreshments, if required, and the odd icecream in the afternoon.
Highlights of this four day trip are the Antarctic Beech forest with soft tree ferns and ground covers of smaller ferns, mosses and lichens. Here Lyrebirds, Brush Turkeys, Eastern Whipbird, Bowerbird and Olive Whistler cohabit. Even a rare Rufous Scrub-bird may appear.
Gloucester Falls has a short walk through Snow Gums, one of the specialties of the Barrington area, turning to Brown Barrels and Messmates, then wet eucalypt forest. Olive Whistler is the target bird.
Sphagnum moss swamp, such an unusual environment is cut by meandering channels of icy water filled with vivid green weeds. Rich in subalpine flora and completed by the the fabulous Flame and Scarlet Robins.
Peace and tranquility abound at Woko National Park, aboriginal for either Southern Boobook or Tawny Frogmouth. We’ll watch the escarpment for a Peregrine Falcon, listen for the Wompoo Fruit-Dove and strain the binos for a Russet-tailed Thrush.
Lots of wonderful birds to aim for in rewarding high country atmosphere.
