Channel Country
Spiney-cheeked Honeyeater
by David Simpson
This country has been blooming for a couple of years now, after rain falling directly in the Windorah area. Birdlife has regenerated through successive breeding seasons. The huge Eyre Basin fed by Channel Country rivers winding their way over the floodplains has once again had another terrific monsoon season and follow-up rains. Revel in the abundance with FTB.

Fly into Charleville on Day 1 with Qantas arriving after Lunch to your 4 star motel, amongst the Spiny-cheeked Honeyeaters and warm spacious air of Queensland. Night Charleville.

Day 2 is a leisurely drive over the Warrego and Paroo Rivers with lots of birdwatching time to acclimatise to all the local birds such as Zebra Finches foraging in seeding grass and Mallee Ringnecks flying through magnificent River Red Gums. Night Quilpie.

Day 3 is magnificent floodplains alive with Brolga, flocks of Budgerigah and Crimson Chats, many Major Mitchell Cockatoo and Southern Whiteface. Night Windorah.

Day 4 there is a flight over the floodplains and channels as seen on television over the last few years. The first of 3 nights in the comfortable and famous Birdsville Pub.

Cooper Creek
Days 5 & 6 after scouting the billabong and Diamantina River for Flock Bronzewings we’ll head back, spending time in the hot spots.

Day 7 we cross the magnificent floodplains alive with Brolga, flocks of Budgerigar and Crimson Chats, many Major Mitchell Cockatoos and Southern Whiteface. 2 nights in Windorah.
